Etsy Project

I recently had my first custom order in my etsy shop!

A friend of mine's mom asked me to make a pillow for her daughter in the University of Akron's colors, where she is attending graduate school. I was very excited to make a unique gift for someone!

I really like these colors together!

What color combinations would you like on a pillow?

My First Forays...

Well, this is my first foray into the world of blogging, and I am relatively new to the world of crafting. It's been an adventure so far! Although I've been knitting for awhile, I was inspired to make other crafts by a friend and fellow violinist, Amanda England. Check out her blog at Mandy's Yellow Corner.

So I made a trip to Hobby Lobby [overwhelming!], and I found a book on tatting. Tatting is the art of lace making. I bought the book, needles, and thread, and I made these:

Both of the medallions are made with the same size needle but different size thread.

I then had the idea that I could sew a few of the medallions onto a pillow. So I bought some fabric and gathered my materials...

I also bought a new sewing basket, and I'm in LOVE with it!

I set up shop in the sunroom:

This room gets a lot of light, and it's my favorite room in the house.

I decided to combine the white medallions and some yellow fabric. I sewed 4 medallions onto the fabric before I began sewing the pillow seams. Everything is hand sewn because, unfortunately, I don't have a sewing machine yet. The first 3 seams were easy...but the last seam [after I inserted the pillow form] proved to be difficult. After much distress, I finally figured it out, and here is the finished product:

I have to say that I'm pretty proud!

And I'm ready to create some new color combinations...

My materials are waiting for me!

Hope you have a lovely day!
