Fort Sumter

The day after his cousin's wedding, Daniel and I headed out for a day in Charleston. We boarded a ferry to take us out to Fort Sumter.

Now if you don't know what Fort Sumter is or didn't have South Carolina history in the eighth grade like I did, it's the place where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. It's not exactly a particularly proud moment in South Carolina's history but fascinating nonetheless.

The views of the Cooper River Bridge were gorgeous.

We visited the fort's museum and saw old cannonballs, weapons, and a 33-star flag.

The bunker in the middle of the fort, which now houses the museum, was built during World War II. Did you know that German submarines actually came in as far as the Carolina coast?

Of course, we explored and ate in downtown Charleston with its iconic rainbow colored buildings, which are my favorite part of the city!

New to Etsy

Despite being so busy, I added quite a few items to my Etsy shop during my blogging break. I added new hairpin colors, a new necklace design, and shoeclips!

I love all of the colors!

Are there any other colors you would like to see?

Loop Yarn Shop

Remember how I told you here that Daniel and I visted a yarn shop while I was in Milwaukee?

I think it's a good thing that I didn't have very much time to shop or very much room in my suitcase...The shop was bright and cheery, with all of the yarn stacked on shelves by weight and color.

Ah, so pretty! I love it when things are arranged by color! I actually bought some of the yarn in the picture below in light blue.

And the shop is right next to an Alterra coffee shop - what could be better?

(What could be better - or worse - is that I just discovered they will soon have an online shop!)

While there, I also bought some yarn to knit a scarf for Daniel. I think this is how the deal went down*:

Me: (while admiring a chunky cream scarf and some bulky weight yarn near it) This is really nice!
Daniel: It is. It looks really warm!
Me: I could make you one like it, but I don't have any needles big enough for this size yarn.
Daniel: I could make you some needles...
Me: Really?!? Ok. If you make me some knitting needles, I'll knit you a scarf.
Both: Deal!

Done.

Yep, Daniel made those for me. Isn't he the best?

The yarn is fifty percent wool and fifty percent alpaca and extrmely soft. I had so much fun using my new needles to make the scarf, and I can't wait to give it to him!

:)

*I just made up half of that conversation, but that's basically how it went.

Found Time

A canceled violin lesson yesterday and a free afternoon today equals time to finish a few projects. I finally finished a necklace I've been working on for awhile. Here it is:

I got the instructions from my friend, Amanda, at Mandy's Yellow Corner. You can find her original tutorial here. I wore it to a baby shower this morning and got a lot of compliments and maybe a few potential buyers!

I also had a few tatted medallions that didn't turn out the same size as the others so I turned them into hair clips...

...they look perfect with a messy side bun!

I made some new medallions in a few bright colors. I think this yellow medallion would look cute on a peachy orange fabric...

...or a grey fabric.

What do you think?

Finding Time

Well, I still didn't get much done today in the way of crafting...sigh. I always seem to get sidetracked by other things - today was a visit to the eye doctor. I discovered there that I can't even see the gigantic E at the top of the eye chart. It's all a big blur. Hmmm...

I did have time, though, to make a few fabric flowers:

I also had time to pick up some new colors of fabric...

...some pretty straight pins (the colors make me happy!)...

...a sketch pad for my upcoming trip to New York...

...and some new thread for tatting.

Aren't all the colors pretty?
